A Star is Born (2018)

5.5/10

Directed by Bradley Cooper

Starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga

Believe it or not I had not seen this film even once since its release in 2018. I don’t really know why. Usually I am drawn to music biopics or movies of that sort of vibe but for some reason this film didn’t intrigue me as much.

After watching it for the first time I can confidently say that it personally felt emotionally distant despite its dramatic premise. However, I don’t think it’s a horrible watch, just one I wouldn’t personally re-watch myself. It touches upon many culturally insightful themes such as alcohol, drug abuse and romantic relationships. But it’s really nothing extraordinary that we haven’t seen in other blockbuster movies.

The acting was pretty good in my opinion. Especially Bradley Cooper’s portrayal of Jackson Maine.

At the beggining the film was very engaging, however as the stortyline progressed, I realised that the plot would heavily revolved around Jackson’s struggle with alcohol addiction which in my opinion made the screenplay feel somewhat repetitive and felt like it was going nowhere. You could also kind of see the end coming.

I think that the best part about the film is really the soundtrack itself. The original songs are pretty good and catchy throughout the film.

In conclusion, this is an okay film in my opinion, which I don’t regret watching, but wouldn’t double down on rewatching myself.

As a disclaimer I do know that this movie was a remake of past 1937, 1954, and 1976 versions, but this was a raw review of the movie with no prior comparision to it’s older counterparts.

Peace :)
